Diagnostic ultrasound is a service offered by Shaun Rouse in conjunction with a clinical history taking and physiotherapy assessment. This imaging modality is able to visualise structures and complements the clinical assessment to help formulate an accurate diagnosis of your presenting complaint.
The imaging process is relatively simple, pain free and can assess certain muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones and peripheral nerves. Ultrasound does have limitations in its ability to visualise deeper structures in the body and is also unable to visualise structures within a joint, for example cruciate ligaments in the knee or labrum in the shoulder joint. Ultrasound scanning to the face, neck, spine, trunk or pelvis is not offered. The ultrasound scan does not include the assessment of any ‘lumps and bumps’ or vascular abnormalities (such as DVT) as this is outside of the scope of the clincian.
Diagnostic ultrasound can also be performed dynamically which is helpful at assessing stability around joints, tendon health or effusion from certain joints.
Shaun Rouse completed his training with the Sports Medicine Ultrasound Group (SMUG) and qualified with a PG Cert MSK sonography in 2024.
